Msgr. Sean P. Flynn, pastor of St. Mark’s in Sea Girt, was born on September 16, 1950, in Ireland. The first of six growing up on a small farm, he had to get up early to milk the cows, collect the eggs, and tend the sheep. When he discovered he was meant to shepherd a different flock, he prepared for the priesthood in his native land at St. Patrick College, County Caslow and was ordained on June 8, 1975 by Bishop Patrick Mulligan. His first assignment for the Diocese of Trenton was as parochial vicar in Sacred Heart Parish, Mount Holly, and then as associate pastor at Blessed Sacrament Parish. His first local parish was St. Denis in Manasquan before he was appointed as the bishop’s representative for Catholic hospitals. He served on the boards of both Catholic Charities and St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center. It would be at this time that a ministry called “Project Rachel” was started to help women receive forgiveness and healing after having undergone an abortion. In 1990, he was appointed pastor of St. Dorothea’s in Eatontown. After being appointed dean of the Central Monmouth Deanery and invested with the title of Monsignor, he became the pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Toms River. Twelve years later, he became pastor of St. Mark’s, where he has been serving for 11 years.
